Solid Shelving
Solid Steel Shelving
Metro Super Erecta solid steel shelving provides a flat, continuous storage surface for heavy-duty applications where spill containment is a greater priority than airflow. Unlike wire shelving, solid metal shelves prevent items and liquids from passing through.
Metro industrial solid shelves are available in galvanized and stainless steel options for a variety of applications. In addition to flat solid shelves, we also carry louvered/embossed options that allow for air circulation under packages and containers while maintaining a predominantly solid surface. A raised ship’s edge on all sides helps contain spills in liquid-storage applications.
Metro solid shelves are built for the Super Erecta platform and work with standard Super Erecta posts. Shelves can be used to create an entirely solid shelving unit or combined with wire shelves of the same size within the same frame, such as using a solid bottom shelf with wire shelves above.
Solid steel shelves satisfy healthcare hygiene codes to protect contents from floor contamination or cleaning spray.
Galvanized vs Stainless Steel Shelves
Metro galvanized shelving is made from 18-gauge steel with a zinc coating applied by hot-dip galvanization. This shelving is ideal for applications requiring a solid shelf or work surface with minimal corrosion resistance. Galvanized shelving should not be used in wet environments or exposed to aggressive chemicals.
Stainless steel shelves offer superior resistance to corrosion, chemicals, and frequent washdowns. Metro solid stainless steel shelving is available in type 304 and type 316 stainless steel with autoclavable/cart-washable options. Solid stainless steel shelves are suitable for use in sterile, wet, or controlled environments.
304 vs 316 Stainless Steel Shelves
Type 304 stainless steel is the most popular option, offering excellent corrosion resistance in most environments, including foodservice, healthcare, and general lab applications.
Type 316 stainless steel provides additional resistance to corrosion, particularly chlorides, and is a better option for labs and pharmaceutical applications with frequent exposure to caustic chemicals and salts.
